Name: Rúmil of Lórien
Age: 1329, among the reckoning of men
Sex: Male
Race: Silvan Elvish
Job: Elven Ranger
Plot: Rúmil is a border guard and a Marchwarden of Lothlorien, along with his brother, Orophin and Haldir, he protects the Silvan forests and the great city of Caras Gladhon. He also feels a certain obligation of protection to Brania Denethor, who he had helped to take care of since she came to the forest.
Personality: Aside from the innate grace, poise, and elegance that every elf possesses, Rúmil is a combination of compassion and secrecy. Since the seclusion and isolation of Lorien is one of its greatest strengths, Rúmil finds himself emotional guarded from the world for the most part. Distrustful of strangers, and careful, lest they should find fault in him, and exploit it. Of the three Marchwardens, he is by far the most reserved, and the most likely to shy away from a social situation.
But at the same time, he is immortal, and Rúmil has all the wisdom and compassion which comes with that gift. Generally at a state of serenity with his surroundings, he treats all life as sacred. A virtue, or fault as some say, which leads to his great compassion towards those to weak to care for themselves.
All in all, Rúmil is gentle and polite, rarely speaking to be heard, but always speaking to be understood.
History: Of the three brothers of Lorien, Haldir, Orophin, and Rumil, Rumil is the youngest. In fact, some fifty years after he was born, his parents took the journey to the Grey Havens, and then the ship across the sea. The brothers chose to remain and to continue to guard Lothlorien. So it was that, for the most part, Rumil was raised by his older brothers, and a great bond was forged between them. They were rarely seen apart, whether under the boughs of Caras Galadhon, or at the edge of the Dimrill Dale.
Together, Haldir and Orophin taught their young charge the ways of the forest. How to shoot with a bow, how to move silently, and how to heal and tend to the wounds of many creatures. But most importantly, they taught him how to listen to the sounds of the woods, how to be at peace with the world around him, how to know when all was well, and when there was something amiss. All these things grew him, and before long Rumil joined his brothers as a border guard of the Lady’s Wood. Under the protection of the three brothers, and under the threat of their feathered shafts, the Orcs of the Misty Mountains came to fear the boughs of the Mallorn trees.
Shortly before the War of the Ring, as Rumil and his brothers were wandering the banks of the Great River, they happened upon a daughter of men, washed up against the bank and desperately ill. There was little discussion as to what to do, and the brothers took the young woman with them back to Caras Gladhon, to the Queen of the Wood.
The girl revealed herself only as Brania, and Galadriel instructed that no one would press her further on the matter. As soon as the girl had been healed the question of where she would lodge arose. Rumil’s older brothers managed to convince the queen that their younger brother was far too timid for his own good, and for this girl to be under his protection would do him worlds of good.
So it was that Rumil and his brothers found themselves as protectors and adopted brothers of Brania, and time they taught her the same lessons that they themselves had learned. Life from then on became fairly eventful, war with Mordor was renewed, and the orcs that festered in the Misty Mountains began to push against the borders of Lorien once more.
After the destruction of the rings of power, the Elves began to depart from Middle Earth; Haldir and his brothers chose to remain for a time, to protect their ancestral home until the last Elf of Lorien left its boughs. That is, of course, until war was renewed. The old alliances were as true in this age as they had been in the last, and many of the Elves were loathe to leave the land still suffering under the shadow of Mordor.
Family: Haldir (Brother)
Orophin (Brother)
Brania (Adopted sister)
Appearance: As with all the Elves of Lorien, Rumil is tall and quite fair. Willowy, even by a Elf’s standards, with long golden hair and deep blue eyes.
Role Playing Sample: You know me…I know me…let’s just dispense with the pleasantries.
