Name: Lissana Thulmil Duun
Age: 22
Sex: Female
Race: Half-breed elf and man(see history for explanation)
Job: Royal messenger(I know it isn’t on the list, and I’ll change it if you find it implausible. Explained in history.)
Plot: Lissa will be spending most of her time on horseback, keeping up the lines of official(and unofficial) communication between the Kings of Rohan and Gondor, spending no more than a few days in any one location. Whenever possible she corresponds her trips with those of the Lady Eowyn.
Personality: Lissa is quietly competent. She knows what she knows and what she can and can’t do. And she is secure in that. She’ll be the first person to tell you that she is not the right person for the job…but, fortunately that doesn’t happen often.
Lissa doesn’t make many deep personal connections, mostly because she isn’t in one place long enough. But she’s gotten used to relaxing whenever possible, so she doesn’t mind just hanging out with trusted strangers, such as Riders and Kingsmen of Rohan and corresponding equivalent people from Gondor.
Lissana has one special weakness involving children and horses, calling them Neth Gwanur(young kinsman/kinswoman) as she learned from her father. She’ll protect either as far as she can, and while she has so far avoided having to break orders to do so, she can’t say that day will never come.
Lissana has three main parts to her personality. Not separate from each other, but distinct in the forms they take, and the situations that inspire which reactions.
In Public
In public Lissa tends to have a stern, collected demeanor. She does what is required of her with the minimum of fuss and noise. She is deeply aware of who and what is around her and does her best not to disturb any of it if possible. The only time she’ll speak up is if she feels something is being overlooked, or in defense of something she believes in, or which she believes to be defenseless.
In Private
In private, and this is a wide range of events, due to her comfort with people she considers her comrades, Lissa is far more open and talkative. She will say whatever’s on her mind, has no problem loosening up. She also has little problem voicing her opinions, these usually being the ones she won’t say In Public. Meaning deeply negative or insulting commentary.
Lissa is both more open in private and harder. She’ll laugh and relax and have fun, but her first response to things is sarcasm and cynicism.
In Love
Lissa has three things she loves. Children. Horses. And the dream of being romantically in love with a man. But she doesn’t consider that last option as being entirely possible so she tends not to think about it. The other two, though, effect her day-to-day life. Both she considers her younger siblings(as reflected by the elvish endearment she learned from her father) and they are about the dearest thing to her. With either one she opens up completely, losing her hardness entirely.
She is at her softest and kindest with them, especially alone. In fact, though she does have her moments, few adults would call her kind at all.
History:
Fingolfin was a partial blood elf who chose a mortal life. He married a woman from a roaming horse-breeding clan in Rohan. The two settled down within a days ride of Fangorn forest because of Fingolfin’s affinity. And so they lived in peaceful monotony, raising crops and Eesa keeping her hand in the family business of horse breeding.
They had one child, a girl, Lissana. She was raised quietly, normally, with a few exceptions. She spent a lot of time on horseflesh of a somewhat better quality than most peasants. She was also given some special training with her father. She’ll never starve or remain lost in a forest and she is skilled with two-handed dagger fighting. She prefers daggers, but she can use the technique with both knives and short swords.
Unfortunately, her training was cut short, incomplete when she was just barely 14. A sudden wind storm swept up in the middle of branding, catching the coals and scattering them across the barn’s thatch roof. Eesa raced into the burning building to try and save her horses. Fingolfin followed to try and save his wife. It collapsed, killing them both. The shock of seeing her parents die turned her hair permanently white.
After spending the day and night in numb grief, Lissa picked herself up, gathered the rest of the horses, who hadn’t been in the barn, and made her way, over a few weeks, to her mother’s people. She traded her horses for one of their best, war-trained mares.(The warsteeds throw 3 or 4 mares for every stallion, so the males are never gelded or let our of clan hands.)
From there she went to Edoras and traded her services as a stable hand(partially based on her mother’s family reputation) for food and lodging for herself and her horse. She faded through life for a few months until one of the Kingsmen asked her to take a message to his Captain. But, though the captain wasn’t where she’d been told to find him, that didn’t stop Lissa. She tracked him down anyway. The captain was impressed, despite the fact that the message was really unimportant(who would trust some random stable hand with anything important?)
But she’d earned some kind of trust so, over the next few years, she gradually began to work for him as a Messenger. From there, she worked her way upwards and for the past 2 1/2 years has been a Royal Messenger.
Family:
Father – Fingolfin – deceased
Mother – Eesa - deceased
Appearance: (Still looking for a pic that has the appropriate white hair, but until then…) Lissa is about 5 foot 4 inches, thin and lightweight for fast, easy travel. She has deep brown eyes and a perpetually tanned complexion that contrasts strangely with her shock of white hair. Her hair is around shoulder length and usually pulled back or up or however she can keep it out of her face.
Her typical look is of a simple green cotton dress(think Susan from Narnia if you’ve seen it) split up to the waist from and back. Underneath are brown leather riding pants and heavy boot and a very light mail shirt. She keeps two 7 inch daggers on her person as well.
Role Playing Sample:
Lissa picked up her mug, not really caring if it was clean at this point. The one she’d gotten her first drink in had been, and there wasn’t any strange tastes in the beer, so it was unlikely there was anything fatally wrong with this one.
“You’ve got to be kidding me, Braxas!” she scoffed, “There’s no way in hell that lady would ever give Petras the time of day much less…that lovely little service you just described.”
She shook her head and took a long drink. “No chance in hell.” Lissa picked up the eating knife she’d been toying with and threw it at the blade-scarred mantel. It flew, end over end, and stuck soundly where she wanted it to be.
Pushing herself up she sauntered over and yanked it free. It was standard policy at this tavern to use the fireplace for target practice so no one objected.
“No way in hell,” she repeated for the third time as she dropped back into her seat.
I lissa agree to the Proboards EULA and the rules of this board. I understand that breaking these rules may result in my account being banned and that what is seen as "breaking the rules" is the Administrator's discretion.
