Name:
Lord Faramir
Age:
44
Sex:
Male
Race:
Men, Dúnedain of the South (Blood runs from his mothers side)
Job:
Steward of Gondor, Lord of Emyen Arnen, Head of the White Company, [Along with Prince Imrahil]Advisor to the King.
Plot:
Lead the Armies of Ithilien on behlaf of the King.
Personality:
Faramir's personality has many layers. He is kind and gentle to all, man and beast. He is fair and just but also can be ruthless when the time calls for it. Faramir is less daring than his brother Boromir, but not a lesser Lord than he. Faramir's personality was mis-judged by the peoples of Gondor, his love of lore and music made them believe that he was less hardy than his brother Boromir.
Faramir commands respect of those he leads. His leadership skills allow him to Order his men without question. Faramir is among Gondor's finest warriors, but he does not enjoy fighting for wars sake. Faramir has the ability to read a person, much like his father, but, unlike Denethor, Faramir tends to move towards pity, rather than scorn and would prefer to help someone rather than punish them. Faramir's pitying nature often manages to earn him the scorn of others, particularly from Denethor, his father. Faramir's personality was greatly effect by Denethor, being the lesser - in Denethors opinion - of two children created a strained relationship between the two. Because of this, Boromir and Faramir's relationship grew and instead of his father to protect and teach him, Faramir had Boromir.
History:
Right from birth, Faramir was seen as the lesser of the two brothers. The names of the two brothers show Denethors preference. Faramir means "Sufficient Jewel" while Boromir means "Great Jewel".
Faramir was named Captain of the Rangers of Ithilien, a group made up of the Southern Dúnedain, who patrolled, weather beaten and tired, the borders of Ithilien. The night before an attack on Osgiliath, Faramir had a prophetic dream in the form of a riddle:
“Seek for the Sword that was broken:
In Imladris it dwells;
There shall be counsels taken
Stronger than Morgul-spells.
There shall be shown a token
That Doom is near at hand,
For Isildur's Bane shall waken,
And the Halfling forth shall stand.
Faramir pleaded with his father to be the one sent to Rivendell, but Boromir, being the greater, claimed the journey for himself.
During a fight against the Southrons on the border, Faramir and his company encountered Frodo Baggins and Samwise Gamgee. After taking them to the Ranger's secret refuge behind the waterfall at Henneth Annûn, Faramir questioned them and learned that they were companions of Boromir. It is at this point that a crucial difference between Faramir and Boromir is found. Faramir regected the ring, outright, because blood of Ancient lineage flowed in him. After giving them warnings and what previsions they would need, he set them free.
Faramir reported his meeting with Frodo and Sam to Denethor, in the presence of Gandalf. Denethor sent Faramir to hold Osgiliath, after telling him he wished that Faramir had died and not Boromir. During the fight, Faramir was hit with a Southron dart. This, along with Faramir’s weariness and grief concerning his constantly strained relationship with his father and the Black Breath of the Nazgûl, who, under Sauron's orders, hunted Faramir ever since he'd left Ithilien caused him to slip into a deep and deathly fever.
His uncle, Prince Imrahil of Dol Amroth and Mithrandir rescued him from his death bed in Osgiliath and took him back to Minas Tirith, where he was almost burned alive, save for the valiant efforts of Beregond of the Guard. Faramir was recalled from death's door by Aragorn and he took his post as the Steward of Gondor. During his time in the Houses of Healing, Faramir declared his love for Eowyn, they later married. Upon the return of the Captains of the West, Faramir laid his Stewardship at the feet of Aragorn and offered to him, the Realm of Gondor. Aragorn named him Steward once more and granted him the titles of Prince of Ithilien and Lord of Emyen Arnen.
Faramir settled, with Eowyn, in Ithilien. He later took part in the skirmishes on the borders of Ithilien and attended the Meeting of Armistace.
Family:
Eowyn - Wife
Prince Imrahil - Uncle
Boromir - Brother/Deceased
Denethor - Father/Deceased
Finduilas - Mother/Deceased
Appearance:
Faramir is tall and noble looking. He has dark hair and grey eyes. Always appears somewhat unshaven.
Role Playing Sample:
Lord Faramir watched as the Queen from the South entered the Pavillion. She had removed her hood. Faramir looked towards her with great dis-like, not afraid to show his emotions, although only through his eyes, which burned. He saw the two generals step to her side and Faramir did so to Aragorn, standing at the side of his chair.
Faramir did not like the look of the two ruffians which stood either side of the queen, although they looked alot more regal than those whom he had fought and killed not a day ago. Formality took over him and Faramir bowed, if only slightly.
'My lady,' he said, through clenched teeth.
